Hovering Kite without card draw or Choker in an All-for-One deck are two examples. However, the situations where you choose Astrolabe are the ones where the energy relic downside is far too great. One additional energy is extremely powerful. For example, Mine-Tower-Cave cant cast Alchemy or Mulldrifter. Whenever you encounter this situation you will usually choose the Energy Relic. II) Astrolabe has more synergy with Flicker because you can target it to draw a card III) Without Astrolabe the deck doesnt have enough rainbow mana sources unless it adds rainbow lands, which make the early game worse in games where you dont have a Signet/Prism. Empty Cage also doesn’t add cards to your deck which you may be better at the end of Act 2. Empty Cage can remove curses so it improves at the end of Act 2. Removes 3 cards versus 2 and gives you 3 upgraded. Both of these relics become much worse if you are forced to select them at the end of Act 2 and you may not even have 3 cards you want to get rid of making Black Star usually the go to.Īt the end of Act 1 Astrolabe is usually better. If you aren’t worried about struggling in Act 2 this relic will benefit you far more in the long run. The 3 upgraded cards will give you different avenues to victory you didn’t have before. Maybe you beat Act 1 with a weak deck using potions or were unable to get many relics through elite fights. Select Astrolabe if your deck is too weak to fight in Act 2 without very specific card pick ups and you are worried about scaling fast enough. Some common situations simplified and my take: One thing to consider is that transforming 3 strikes makes the Ancient Writing event worse by some margin. which present you with a clear path forward. It is good to take whenever you do not feel your deck is strong enough for Act 2 or you don’t yet have a strategy going as it can roll into Corruption, Wraith Form, Echo Form, etc. Choker on Ironclad, Inserter on Defect) but there are many cases where it is taken over energy relics so I put it as a mid-tier.

It takes 3 cards you do not want in your deck and adds 3 cards which are usually better so it provides a large swing in deck power. It is a high variance relic which seems to have a bias towards rare transforms. This relic falls into the “No Downside, Weaker Effect” side of the boss relic spectrum. Again, I could just be really lucky, but I'm curious if anyone else has had this experience or knows some extra info on the actual chances, because if the rates are higher or guaranteed to some extent then this relic should be getting a lot more credit than it normally gets. I would normally write this off as being lucky, but it has happened so often that I'm starting to suspect that the chances of something transforming something into a Rare with Astrolabe are higher then we think. I've gotten 2 Rares multiple times, and once I even got 3 Rares. Now I don't know if its some sort of karma from having such as bad boss relic pool or if I'm just really lucky, but Astrolabe has consistently given me 1 Rare, and seldom has given me any Commons. This is especially true when you take into account the cards you get back are already upgraded. There are very few cards that are worse than a basic Strike/Defend. Most would probably go for Black Star, but that's not really my style unless I am really confident in my deck, so I'll go for Astrolabe instead. The most common argument against this relic is that it has the chance of giving you trash, but there are very good counterarguments in favor of Astrolabe. Sometimes I get pretty unlucky with my Boss Relics, such as having to pick from Tiny House, Black Star, or Astrolabe. All this competition makes things seem pretty bad for Astrolabe, but the times I've picked it, it has either been a worse Empty Cage or has worked miracles. The Watcher in particular has great class specific Boss Relics, with Violet Lotus and Holy Water granting more energy. Sure things like Tiny House are still there, and Pandora's Box is always a gamble, but Orrery is now a shop relic, Calling Bell got buffed, Hovering Kite got a great rework, and Slaver's Collar is starting to become a staple to many runs for me. This relic is a reference to the Inserter device from Factorio. NFT #eternal #exotic #wierd #aesthetic #1.With all the recent relic rarity changes, buffs, and additions in the beta branch, Astrolabe now stands out as being one of the few untouched "mediocre" boss relics.
